Mickey Goldin has had a career in photography starting at age 11. Using a big old box camera I started processing and printing black and white negatives in a darkroom fashioned in the basement beneath the back stairs. By 8th grade, using my father's folding Kodak camera and flash bulbs I was the school photographer. A true geek, my grades were going down from spending too much time in the darkroom. At that point, my teachers consulted with my parents. They took me out of the photo business and sent me to Dental School. Fast forward fifty years to an injury that forced me out of Periodontics with nothing but time and opportunity awaiting me. The past seven years have given me the freedom and wonderful digital equipment and lenses to capture the interactions of athletics, dance and music. I have come to understand that the Zen of Photography arises from the energy that I perceive in the viewfinder. The higher the level of emotional energy of the participants, the more insightful my images have become.
